  • Antique: 1939 - 1960's (estimated)
  • Details:  This is such a wonderful tin, it is a rare octagonal shape, with a faux woodgrain finish and embossed ducks in flight.  The look is very masculine, dark muted colors, perfect for Autumn.  The interior is surprisingly clean and shiny with minor wear.  Mark on the bottom reads: "Container made in England".  One side of lid is marked:  "MB No 33265 copyright Made in England", which is how these tins were marked by The Metal Box Company in the 40's to the early 60's.  This would make a great gift for a tin collector.  A great addition to a Fall vignette or to store your treasures.
  • Material:  Metal / Tin
  • Dimensions:  6.25 inches Square, 2.25 inches Tall
  • Condition:  Vintage - Used.  Good Vintage Condition.  There are several scratches all around the tin, no dents, no discoloration.  If you love the look of time-worn pieces, this one will be perfect.  Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are ANTIQUE and VINTAGE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.

The Metal Box company has a very long history, here is some brief information.  The company dates back to circa 1810, went through many acquisitions, takeovers and mergers.  For example, Hudson Scott and Sons of Carlisle and Newcastle, were acquired by Metal Box in 1921.  In 1939 The Metal Box company acquired Barringer Wallis and Manners Ltd. (BM&W).  Both factories became involved in the manufacture of components to help the WWII war efforts.  Throughout their history they didn't just make decorative tins, in 1932 Metal Box described itself as a ‘maker of plain and decorated tins and tins for fruits and vegetables’, but the product line grew and by the mid 1930s they also made the first British beer cans.  They made brewery trays (a practice started by BW&M in the 1920's) until the 1970's, and even made plastic containers & aerosol cans in the early 60’s.  In the 1980’s and 1990’s market downturns resulted reduced products and under different ownership and structure, the company survived but since 1996 it's been under the name Crown Cork & Seal (now called Crown Specialty Packaging), which is now part of Crown Holdings Inc.
